The Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship is being offered by the Africa Institute as part of its African Languages and Translation Program.
This residency program is named for the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan, who left a lasting legacy in the fields of African literature and critical theory.
The residency program accepts submissions from novelists, short story writers, playwrights, poets, and scriptwriters who are interested in writing about Africa and the African diaspora for a total grant of 45,000 AED.
The project proposal can be written in Arabic or English (other languages will be considered). Recipients are invited to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, for a three-month residency to complete their work.
The Africa Institute’s publications program will provide recipients with the opportunity to publish their works.
Projects involving theatre and film screenplays might be published as texts or receive assistance in putting on shows.
The project can be fresh or in progress, and it must be realistic to complete during the residence duration.
The Africa Institute will analyze all applications with the help of a committee of well-known writers.
Three grantees will be chosen based on the quality of their proposal and their demonstrated ability to complete the residence within the period.
